Picture of Ai Wei Wei Ai Weiwei is a Chinese contemporary artist and activist. Weiwei uses his artistic ability to show both the beauty in art and to fight back against his oppressive government. He has been through many investigations concerning his government's ethical position. The main reason he is against his government is because of the economic corruption that runs rampant throughout his country.
Weiwei utilizes pictures and video documentaries to express his artistic defiance against his government. Due to this defiance, many of Weiwei's projects are aimed towards the government's corruption. One of the reasons I posted the picture of Weiwei shown above is because it clearly shows his openness to express his emotions in a picture. The themes of his pictures and videos vary from colorful ("WITH FLOWERS" project") to serious and monochrome ("NAME LIST INVESTIGATION" project). From what I have gathered from Slack and the internet, Weiwei really does seem to care enough about other people's well-being to be able to defy his own country's actions. Not a lot of people in this world are willing to get arrested for what they truly believe is right. Having the courage to speak out against a country is respectable and Weiwei deserves a lot of credit by using his artistic expression to do this. Weiwei's work was very difficult to describe at first, but after the discussions on Slack and looking at more of his work, I was able to understand why Weiwei does what he does. I really appreciate artists that are dedicated to their work and it's inspiring to me that Weiwei is so expressive about his government's actions and his art.

For this activity I decided to take a picture in my room. Though it is difficult to see, I am wrapped around my iPhone lightning cord (10 ft.) next to the outlet (not in the photo).
As for this activity, I feel like death is a sensitive topic for most people but we should all know that death, like most things, are inevitable. Even if we are young right now, death has a tendency to creep up on people and while I do agree that death is scary, death is a huge part of everything in the world. Some deaths are scary, some deaths are peaceful, and some deaths are unexpected. That's how life is. The only way for us to stop being afraid of death is to accept the fact that death will come eventually. For the pictures I took for this activity, what I was trying to "portray" was this generation's addiction to their smartphones. It's safe to say that I am addicted to using my smartphone 24/7 and that is one of the reasons why I bought the 10 foot longer charging cable for my phone. In the picture, I am entangled in my own charging cord. This activity was difficult because I didn't have anyone helping me for the pictures, but I do appreciate the talk of death becoming more normal for people my age. |
